Octane Legal

Ask Legal. Get the right answer, or the right lawyer.

Twelve agents run the in-house legal front door for Octane's employees, under Australian law in every state and territory. Agents find and quote, code decides what is allowed and when it is due, and lawyers own the advice.

How a request flows

Self-help to external counsel. Only as far as it needs.

Each level hands over the quoted evidence, so nobody asks the employee twice. Every step is written to a hash-chained audit trail.

L0

Self-help

Legal Guidance Agent

Answers general questions from Legal's approved guidance, cited, and says who may sign from the delegations of authority.

L1

Standard documents

Intake and Signature Agents

An NDA on Octane's template, or the other side's NDA when every clause matches the playbook, goes out for e-signature in minutes.

L2

Contract review

Clause and Review Agents

Every clause is quoted and checked against Legal's playbook. Counsel accepts a deviation or sends Legal's own fallback wording.

L3

Matters

Matter and Privacy Agents

Letters, claims, regulators, employment and privacy go to the right lawyer, privileged, with the deadline calculated for the jurisdiction.

L4

External counsel

Counsel Brief Agent

Instructions to a panel firm are drafted for the General Counsel, who approves the spend.

In the Legal Desk

A day at the Legal Desk. Six outcomes.

Each story is ready to run end to end in the Legal Desk.

Touchless

"Can I sign this NDA?"

Brightwave's mutual NDA

Every clause is quoted and matches Legal's playbook, and Jasmine may sign NDAs, so it goes out for e-signature in about two minutes, with no lawyer involved.

Red lines

A $1.2M supplier contract

Unlimited liability, New York law

Four red lines are quoted with their clause numbers. Senior counsel sends Legal's fallback wording, the agreed text is checked again, and the CFO signs because the delegations say so.

21 days

A statutory demand

Registered post

Code tells it apart from an ordinary letter of demand, starts a 21-day clock that can't be extended, and gives it to the disputes lawyer as a privileged P1 matter.

No advice

"Can we fire Jake?"

Employment

That's advice about a person, so the desk doesn't answer it. It goes to the employment lawyer and the HR business partner, privileged.

30 days

A privacy breach

Customer list sent to the wrong person

The facts are gathered (1,900 people, contact details), the 30-day assessment clock starts, and the Privacy Officer decides whether to notify the OAIC.

Blocked

A sanctioned company

NDA request

The counterparty is on the sanctions list, so nothing is drafted or sent and the General Counsel is told.

Australian law

Every state and territory. Deadlines in code.

A rule table for the Commonwealth and every state and territory, with each state's public holidays. No verified rule means "deadline to confirm" by a lawyer, never a guess.

Statutory demands

21 days after service to pay or to file and serve an application to set the demand aside. The court can't extend it, so the desk shows a safe working date before it.

Court claims

The defence period for the court that issued the claim: 28 days in the Federal Court, NSW, QLD, SA, the ACT and the NT Local Court; 21 in the VIC and TAS Magistrates Courts; 14 in the WA Magistrates Court.

Privacy

A suspected eligible data breach is assessed within 30 days of becoming aware. Requests for personal information get an answer within a reasonable period.

What you'll see

Employee, legal team, contract register.

Follow one request all the way through.

Ask Octane Legal

One page for employees: ask a question, ask for an NDA, or attach a contract or a letter. Answers come back as Legal's approved guidance, a document on Octane's terms, or a named lawyer and a deadline.

Today and the deadline board

What came in, what's P1, what's privileged, and every legal deadline in order, counted in code for its jurisdiction.

The matter file

The document beside the playbook check, with each clause highlighted, its exact quote, Octane's position and the fallback wording. Plus the decision trace and the audit trail.

Learning and autonomy

When lawyers accept the same wording three times, the Learning Agent drafts a playbook note. The General Counsel approves it; red lines never change.

Legal Desk Agent

Ask about any request in plain English. Privileged matters stay with the people Legal names.

Contract Register

Contracts, counterparties, the sanctions list, delegations of authority, the playbook and e-signature, with an activity log of every envelope and refusal.

Built-in rules

Fast answers. Never legal advice.

These rules are in the code, not in a prompt, so no agent can talk its way around them. Every step is written to a hash-chained audit trail.

01

Agents find and quote. Code decides.

The route, every control, the risk, the deadline and the signatory are plain code. Agents read, quote and explain.

02

Every clause quoted exactly.

Code checks each quote inside the clause it cites. An unverified quote or an unexplained risky clause sends the contract to a lawyer.

03

Lawyers own the advice.

Employees see Legal's approved guidance, cited, or "a lawyer has this". Questions about a person or a dispute always go to a lawyer.

04

Privilege and signatures by rule.

Privileged matters stay with the people Legal names. The delegations decide who signs, and the register re-checks before anything goes out.

On IBM watsonx Orchestrate

End to end, in the Legal Desk.

Ask whether you can sign Brightwave's NDA and sign it, send a $1.2M contract to senior counsel and redline it, and watch a statutory demand's 21-day clock start.
